On September 1, 1864 the fourth Jewish congregation in Chicago was established by ”Israelites” (looking much like the Cohen Brothers pictured here) residing in the West Division section of the city of Chicago. Chartered under the name Zion Congregation, its first “divine” service was held on Desplaines St between Washington and Madison, a building that had been built as a Baptist church.
